For these methods to work ALL of the vessel MUST be proven to have no electrolysis by SeaBis System. It is all too easy to blame the biggest target - the engine. The House is just as guilty. Both causes must be eliminated to stop electrolysis corrosion. That is the result of the SeaBis System.

Must I use an Isolated (insulated) engine?

Where both battery negative and battery positive are insulated from all metal that can get wet.  Does insulation stop electric current so the wet metal cannot cause electrolysis?  As experienced professionals do?

You do not need to purchase an insulated engine. In explanation, there are 2 situations:

1. Recreational use:

Your engine ON hours are 200 or less per year.

With the absolute condition, proven by permanently connecting SeaBis, that all non engine (House) wiring and equipment have no electrolysis, you can proceed with this solution:

Install a Battery Switch in the battery negative in series with the battery negative wire where it connects to your engine body. The new battery switch must be the same size as your battery positive switch.

The new battery negative switch is set to Open / OFF whenever the engine is OFF. The remainder of the boat is proven free of electrolysis by SeaBis so can be used without causing electrolysis. So your bilge pump, fish finder, radio, autopilot, navigation instruments etcetera may be used for unlimited hours and cannot cause electrolysis. They are connected to battery negative prior to the new battery negative switch so are permanently connected to battery negative.

The result will be that electrolysis corrosion caused by the non-engine is eliminated, totally and that caused by the engine by at least 98%. The 2% is caused by engine ON hours of 200 divided by hours per year of 8400 = 2%.

SeaBis will flash Critical when the battery negative switch to the engine body is Closed / ON. SeaBis will indicate Normal when the new battery negative switch is Open / OFF.

 

2. Commercial use.

Your engine ON hours exceed 200 per year so using of a battery negative switch will result in more than 2% electrolysis corrosion.
