How to Stop Marine Corrosion

There is a need to understand the difference between voltage and current.

Voltage is the POTENTIAL for current to flow.
Current is the ACTUAL energy flowing.

So measuring voltage MUST fail.  That failure will cost you increased corrosion in an *exponential manner. 

*Exponential: I often hear “I had no corrosion until a few weeks ago.”
Explanation: As the metal becomes rougher so its surface area increases. That increases the current flow. So, increasing marine corrosion, exponentially. Step 2 Identify the cause.

SeaBis indicates the power side (battery positive or negative) so halving your work.

Connect SeaBis brown to battery positive, blue to battery negative. Then green / yellow (stray) current sense to metal hull or engine body. Make good connections with no paint, oil,  grease or corrosion. SeaBis indicates the corrosive ability of current. Now switch off circuits until SeaBis indicates Normal (green).

Note at Wikipedia DC (battery) power – the Apparatus power leads are red and black, and first paragraph specifically states DC, not AC (mains or shore power).  Shore power is ONLY AC.  It alternates current direction every 1/50 or 1/60 seconds. So IF it takes off a particle in first 1/50 it will replace it in second 1/50.
So AC cannot cause stray current.  So cannot cause corrosion.

AC – Mains / shore / inverter power. AC current (power) cannot cause marine corrosion as it reverses direction every half cycle / Hertz.

In explanation: If marine corrosion takes off a metal particle in the first half cycle it will replace it when current reverses direction in the second half cycle.

Therefore AC cannot cause corrosion – it is impossible.

DC (battery) current flows in the same direction, permanently.

So DC will continually dissolve your metal. 24 hours every day of the year.

To prove there cannot be DC in AC:  Read the specification on your electric kettle / pot / hotplate. There will be no DC entry. So it has no tolerance for DC.

Therefore IF there were DC in the AC the electric kettle / pot / hotplate would attempt to draw in infinite current and burn out in a few seconds. As would every appliance in your country.

To be realistic, measurements must be in current, with everything at full power and at applied voltage (12 or 24 volts).  There must be no limit in the measuring device and a current sensitivity of millionths of a amp. That device must have no effect on the circuit to be measured, whatsoever. SeaBis Master complies. Multi meters and probes measure voltage as current, at 1 millionth of an amp at 1 volt (irrespective of battery voltage) so have a error probability of greater than 1,000:1. In addition they alter the circuit under test by at least 500 times. Therefore multi-meters do not comply.

The air around aircraft, in clouds, contains more than the tolerance level of 10% humidity.
Any metal in contact with the Earth, even remotely thru the air, passes current to the Earth so causing marine corrosion.
